4th Of July Cocktails: How to Make a Firecracker Fizz

Since the 4th of July calls for something refreshing and patriotic, here is a fun take on a holiday classic. This drink utilizes the Collins template but takes it up a notch it in time for your celebrations.

4th Of July Cocktails: How to Make a Firecracker Fizz

Ingredients

  • 2 oz London Dry Gin (or a clean Vodka)
  • ¾ oz Freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
  • ½ oz Simple Syrup
  • 3-4 Fresh Blackberries (or Blueberries)
  • Soda Water to top
  • Garnish: A fresh strawberry slice and a sprig of mint

Instructions

  1. Muddle: In the bottom of a highball or Collins glass, gently muddle the blackberries with the simple syrup until the juices are released.
  2. Build: Add the gin and lemon juice directly into the glass.
  3. Chill: Fill the glass nearly to the top with pebble ice or cracked ice.
  4. Effervescence: Top with soda water. Use a bar spoon to gently lift the berries from the bottom to create a gradient bleeding effect through the ice.
  5. Garnish: Place the strawberry slice and mint sprig on top for a vibrant red, white, and blue presentation.

Notes

Glassware Prep: Chill your highball glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes prior to serving to keep the drink crisp in the July humidity.
The Swizzle: If you want a more integrated flavor, use a bar spoon to swizzle the drink briefly after adding the ice; this frosts the outside of the glass beautifully.
