Featured Image from A Classic Twist

Prep time: 3 minutes

Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon (a caramel-forward one like Woodford Reserve or Chattanooga Whiskey)
  • ½ oz fresh apple cider (not juice, use unfiltered cider)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash cardamom or cinnamon bitters
  • 1 large clear ice cube
  • Apple fan and cinnamon stick (garnish)

Instructions

  1. Add maple syrup and both bitters to a rocks glass. Stir briefly to combine.
  2. Add the large ice cube.
  3. Pour bourbon and apple cider over the ice.
  4. Stir slowly with a bar spoon for 20–25 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
  5. Garnish with a thin apple fan (thinly sliced apple spread into a fan shape) and a cinnamon stick.

Cider: Fresh-pressed, unfiltered apple cider from a local farm or farmers market makes a noticeable difference over store-bought.

Maple syrup replaces traditional simple syrup for a deeper autumnal sweetness, Grade B (darker) has more flavor than Grade A.

Bitters: The Bittercube Comet or Scrappy’s Cardamom bitters are exceptional here.
