A London Mule is a gin-based twist on the classic Moscow Mule, featuring London dry gin (rather than vodka), ginger beer, and lime juice, often served in a copper mug. Tonight, however, I am making it in a highball glass.
How to Make A London Mule, Foghorn, Gin Buck

Ingredients
- 2 oz Gin (I recommend Roots of Ruin)
- 0.5 oz Lime Juice (FRESH IS BEST)
- 4 oz Ginger Beer (I like Fever Tree, but try a few to nail down your taste!)
- Ice
- Fresh Lime Wedge (garnish)
Instructions
- Chill the glass: Fill a copper mug or highball glass with ice cubes ice cubes to chill it while you prepare the drink.
- Prepare the base: Pour 1.5 fluid ounces London dry gin into the chilled glass.
- Add lime juice: Add 0.5 fluid ounces fresh lime juice to the glass and stir gently to combine.
- Top with ginger beer: Fill the glass with 4 fluid ounces ginger beer, stirring gently to mix all ingredients.
- Garnish and serve: Place 1 lime wheel or slice for garnish on the rim of the glass or drop it into the drink. Serve immediately while cold.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh lime juice rather than bottled. High-quality ginger beer with real ginger will elevate the drink. A copper mug is traditional, but any chilled glass works well (personally, I like the look and feel of a high ball glass). Some variations include a dash of Angostura bitters for added complexity.
