- Whole cinnamon stick and star anise (garnish)
Instructions

- Add the hot buttered rum batter to the warm mug.
- Pour in rum and stir to melt the batter.
- Top with hot water or hot cider. Stir again until fully combined and smooth.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick and star anise.
Notes
Batter: Beat together ½ cup softened unsalted butter + ½ cup brown sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon + ½ tsp nutmeg + ¼ tsp cloves + pinch of salt. Store in the freezer for up to 1 month, scoop as needed.
Cider version: Using hot apple cider instead of water adds a bright fruit note that cuts the richness of the butter beautifully.
